Sheartooth

It hunts by patient circling, reading the water's pressure through its flanks for the flutter of a wounded thing, then closing the distance in one economical rush. It sheds and regrows teeth constantly, leaving the seabed near its haunts littered with pale crescents that local children collect for luck. Solitary and territorial, it tolerates other Sheartooth only in the cold months when the harbor herring run thick, and even then the truce is grudging and full of sidelong looks.
