It stalks the abandoned halls it claims with silent, deliberate grace, materializing and vanishing at will, and it hunts smaller ghosts and the lingering unease of empty rooms with a patient, feline cruelty. It is intensely territorial and intensely proud, tolerating human visitors only so long as they show proper deference and driving off those who do not with sudden chilling manifestations. It is said that a Ghinx chooses one house for its whole long existence, and that the grand old ruins of Pawbury each keep exactly one, sitting sphinx-still in the dark at the top of the stairs.
