Lunarpup

It comes out only after moonrise, coalescing from the night mist to chase things that may or may not be there across the churchyard grass. It feeds, as best anyone can tell, on ambient dread, growing more solid and more visible the more frightened its onlooker becomes, which makes calm the best defense a researcher has. By day it thins to nothing, dispersing into the fog and the shadows under the yew trees, and only its faint, plaintive cry, heard sometimes at noon with no source, betrays that it is still there, waiting for the dark.
