Rhynobuz

It anchors the colony's defense, standing its ground at the nest-mouth with its great horn lowered and its plated back sparking, and things that scattered the Bazzer break themselves against it. It feeds on tough, resinous bark that its heavy jaws can grind, storing the sugars as charge in a body built more like a battery than a beetle. In the mating season the males lock horns in slow, straining, spark-showering contests atop the swarm-tree, and the whole colony hums in what an anthropomorphizing researcher might be forgiven for calling excitement.
